AC and HVAC Running Cost

. Free, runs in your browser.

Comfort cooling often becomes the silent largest load. Enter tons, EER or direct kW, hours and bill rate to see what the AC schedule costs each month.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored.

1Cooling loadThis decides the electrical kW used by the AC or HVAC load.
TRUse AC nameplate tons or chiller cooling tons.
W/WUse equipment EER or measured performance. Edit the example.
kWOptional. If measured kW is entered, it overrides TR and EER.
2Schedule and bill rateThese turn cooling kW into monthly units and rupees.
hrs/dayUse actual occupied or compressor running hours.
daysCount days the AC runs in the month.
₹/unitUse energy rate or average unit rate from your bill.

The formula we use

kW = TR * 3.517 / EER (if kW not given)

monthlyKWh = kW*hours*days

cost = monthlyKWh * rate

  • Direct kW input overrides the TR and EER estimate.
  • No part-load, setpoint, weather or maintenance modelling.
  • For chiller plants, pumps and cooling towers may need separate metering.

Common questions

Should I enter EER or direct kW?

If measured input kW is available, use direct kW. Otherwise the calculator estimates kW from TR and EER.

What does EER mean here?

EER is cooling output divided by electrical input in W/W. Edit the example to match your equipment.

Does this model part-load operation?

No. It uses the entered kW and hours as a screen. Chillers, VRF and inverter ACs need operating data for precision.
